Q1. Which OS can the WinDisc operate on?
A1. The WinDisc can be operated on the following OS; Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac 9.0 or above and Linux 2.4.0 or above.
 
Q2. What OS will the WinDisc NOT support?
A2. The WinDisc will not support MS-DOS, Windows 95 and Windows NT, these operating systems does not support USB devices.
 
Q3. Do I need to turn the computer off when installing my WinDisc?
A3. No, the WinDisc is a hot plug and play device. You can install it anytime you want, even with the computer on.
 
Q4. The system cannot detect WinDisc. What should I do?
A4. If you are using Windows 98 / Windows ME / Windows 2000 / Windows XP, make sure the USB Controller function is enabled in the BIOS, and Windows has detected the USB port(s) successfully.
If you are using Windows 98, be sure to install the drivers for the WinDisc. The drivers can be found at http://www.WinDisc.com/

Q5. What does the mean about the LED flashing on the WinDisc?
A5. When the LED is flashing, that indicates the Drive is in use and data is transferring between the WinDisc and host machine. (Cautions!! Don¡¯t pull out WinDisc at this moment, the data will be lost and possible will cause system down)
 
Q6. Is it safe to remove the WinDisc while files is being transferred?
A6. No, when the light is flashing it means data transfer is taking place, do not remove the WinDisc as it may result in lost of file/data, or even damage the WinDisc.
 
Q7. The virus can infect the WinDisc. How can I prevent it?
A7. The WinDisc is just like a hard drive, it can get virus via any files that you save onto it. Therefore anti-virus software is recommended.
 
Q8. Does the WinDisc have a write protection function?
A8. Yes, it has a write protection switch on the rear side of the WinDisc. When the switch is opened, the data can be read and written from/to the WinDisc, when it is closed, the data can only be read but cannot be written/delete to the WinDisc.
 
Q9. Can the WinDisc be used as a boot disk?
A9. Yes, the WinDisc can be used as a boot disk. If you want to use this function, first step to make sure the USB-ZIP or USB-HDD function is enabled in the BIOS, and use UMSD tool to setup it. (More detail steps to see User's Manual)
 
Q10. Does the WinDisc have a security feature?
A10. Yes, the WinDisc has a security feature to allow users to enter the Password for access the Security area of WinDisc..
 
Q11. Has the WinDisc a data-sharing feature in a networking environment?
A11. Yes, the data can be shared in a networking environment, as long as the host machine enables the share function for the WinDisc.
 
Q12. If I have more than one WinDisc, do I need to repeat the setup of the devices in Win98?
A12. No, one time setup is sufficient

A13. Yes, ScanDisk can be used with the WinDisc
 
Q14. Can the WinDisc be formatted? How?
A14. Yes, the WinDisc can be formatted under Windows 98, Windows ME , Windows 2000 and Windows XP using normal formatting function.
 
Q15. What utilities can I use to low-level format my WinDisc?
A15. UMSD23l.exe , it is found in the Utility CD or can be downloaded from the website: http://www.WinDisc.com/
 
Q16. If I want to read my WinDisc on another Win98 PC and the driver is not with me, how do I do?
A16.  You can download Win98 Driver from the website: http://www.WinDisc.com/
 
Q17. Can I format my WinDisc in NTFS?
A17. Yes you can. Just be aware that when you format your WinDisc with NTFS, you will lose a portion of your
WinDisc memory to the format files that NTFS uses. For example, on an 8MB WinDisc, you may lose more than 1MB to the files that NTFS will place on your WinDisc. Or on an 128MB WinDisc, you may lose up to 8MB to NTFS files. Before formatting, be sure that you are willing to lose this space to NTFS.
 
Q18. What precautions should be taken while using the WinDisc?
A18. Wait for a few seconds upon inserting and removing of the WinDisc, to give time to the operating system to recognize the WinDisc. Avoid removing immediately after inserting the WinDisc or performing repetitive insertions / removals.
 
Q19. When an application such as Word that is stored in WinDisc is running, what happen if I pull the Pen Drive out?
A19. If an application is running and you pull out the WinDisc, the computer screen will go blank. Just press the "Esc" key to return to normal. But the Word file is lost or damaged and you should delete it at once.
 
Q20. What kind of data can be stored on the WinDisc?
A20. You can save any type of files on the WinDisc, whether they are text, graphic, program, music or multimedia files.
 
Q21. What should I do if the ShowDirve comes in contact with water?
A21. The WinDisc should be thoroughly dried before attempting to use it again. Water may otherwise cause a short circuit when inserted into the USB port thus causing damage to the internal circuitry of the WinDisc. If the WinDisc has ceased functioning after damage such as this, please contact our technician.
 
Q22. If I accidentally erase my data on my WinDisc, can I call back this data?
A22. No, you don¡¯t. Because the WinDisc acts just like a normal hard drive, once data is erased from it, that data is permanently lost.
 
Q23. My WinDisc has bad blocks, how can I get it fixed?
A23. You can use this UMSD23.exe utility to recover the device. It will make the device back to its initial status. However, if there are some bad blocks in the flash memory, after you run this utility with scan option, its size maybe less than its initial size and data on the WinDisc will be lost.
 
Q24. When I plug in my WinDisc using Windows 2000, the system does not find a driver and the hardware wizard pops up, what do I do?
A24. Sometimes, when installing or upgrading Windows 2000, the usbstor.inf file becomes corrupted. The usbstor.inf file automatically links between USB storage devices and the Windows' USB mass storage class driver. To restore this file, do the following:
1) Enable your system to view hidden files
2) Go in your Winnt\INF folder
3) Find the usbstor.inf file, make a copy of it (preferably name it usbstor.inf.bac) and put it in a safe.
